Enjoy smooth skin this summer when you choose laser hair removal. This quick and precise…
Despite the overwhelming popularity of BOTOX® and dermal fillers, myths, rumors, and misconceptions about the wrinkle-eliminating injectable persist to this day. BOTOX® was by far the most in-demand, non-invasive procedure of 2020, with over 4.4 million injections performed that year. (For reference, that number is just 500,000 people shy of the total population of Alabama!)
It’s natural to have questions about any procedure that promises to reduce or eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. If you’re suspicious, you’re well within your rights. But, as 4.4 million people learned last year, BOTOX® and other dermal fillers really work—and work really well!
To demystify BOTOX® and other injectables, Azia Med Spa in Birmingham, AL, has all the answers to your most frequently asked questions.
How Do Injectables Work?
As the years roll on, we squint, smile, frown, furrow our brows, and otherwise use our faces to express a range of emotions. As the muscles in your face pull and push the skin, fine lines and wrinkles gradually develop.
BOTOX® works by blocking nerve signals to certain facial muscles, preventing the development or worsening of wrinkles. Over time, these muscles learn to react less, further stalling additional lines and wrinkles.
Dermal fillers, on the other hand, work by filling the area beneath the skin to create volume. This is achieved by injecting hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance found in the human body) among other materials. Dermal fillers plump lips, fill cheeks, flatten out fine lines and wrinkles, and restore confidence.
Is BOTOX® Safe?
Many of us already know that BOTOX® stands for botulinum toxin—a strand of protein produced by bacteria. While the words “toxin” and “bacteria” might alarm you, when used in small doses (such as in a BOTOX® injection) the substance is widely harmless.
When administered by a certified professional, BOTOX® generally performs as expected without serious (or even mild) side effects.
Are Dermal Fillers Safe?
When administered by a professional, dermal fillers are safe. Some patients may experience short-lived rashes, bruising, or swelling at or near the injection site. If you’re concerned about the safety of dermal fillers, ask your provider as many questions as possible. The procedure would not be as widely administered if it were proven to be harmful.
Do Injectables Hurt?
“Does BOTOX® hurt?” It’s a question we get all the time, but in the world of cosmetic procedures, BOTOX® and filler procedures are practically painless. A small pinch at the injection site should be expected, but beyond that, the process is quick and comfortable.
Who Makes Dermal Fillers?
There are dozens of different filler manufacturers working in the cosmetic industry today. Among them, you may notice names such as Juvederm, Restylane, Belotero, Sculptra, and Radiesse—five of the most popular brand name dermal fillers on the market. Together with BOTOX®, these brands make up the majority of injectable procedures today.
Can BOTOX® Help with Acne?
Recent developments in the cosmetic industry point to promising applications for BOTOX® in the fight against acne. Acne outbreaks feed off of the naturally occurring oils and toxins in your skin. Sweat carries the toxins to the skin’s surface, contributing to more outbreaks. When injected into the brow or forehead, BOTOX® reduces sweating, thereby reducing the flow of oils and toxins and helping clear up your skin.
How Long Do Injectable Results Last?
Results vary from person to person. In general, the benefits of BOTOX® persist for 3 to 6 months. You can expect dermal fillers to add plump and volume for 6 to 12 months on average with some dermal fillers lasting upwards of 2-5 years!
